ZONA B - PORTUS JULIUS

La zona B comprende i resti sommersi del Portus Julius. Nel 37 a.C., durante la guerra civile tra Ottaviano e Sesto Pompeo, lo stratega Marco Vipsanio Agrippa realizzo' una grandiosa struttura portuale, Portus Julius, adibita ad arsenale della flotta di Miseno, collegando con un canale navigabile il lago d'Averno, il lago Lucrino e il mare. Per effetto del bradisismo discendente, buona parte del Porto Giulio e' oggi sommersa; infatti tra Baia e Pozzuoli si snodano imponenti tracce delle strutture portuali e di alcuni vici suburbani. Del porto si conservano bene il molo d’ingresso presso Secca Caruso e numerosi Magazzini (horrea). Si incontrano alzati di mura in opera reticolata, molto ben conservati,impianti idraulici e numerosi pavimenti a mosaico di ville costruite dopo l’inabbissamento del porto a causa del bradisismo.

Baia Underwater Archaeological Park

The protected marine area of Baia is the greatest underwater archaeological park of the world .

The ancient city of Baia, and all the line of coast of roman age, is sinked in the sea because of the bradisismo.You can see the rest of the villa of the Pisoni, an ancient noble roman residence , the villa with protiro a particular income with columns; the ninfeo of the emperor Claudius and the Portus Julius. Baia Underwater Archaeological Park is divided into three areas. Zone A reservoir integral , Zone B reservoir general , Zone C reservoir partial. You can visit the underwater park on the boat with transparent glasses, or you can have snorkeling or scuba diving. Before to visit underwater park, you can see the museum of Baia.The museum is in the castle of Baia.
